Engine Bay Wash

Late-model cars need certain care to clean the engine bay. Below are pixs of the engine bay of an E-class that has seen better days. In this project, we'll evaluate the engine and share with you some problem solving guidelines.

Pix 1: Engine had not been given attention to for some time and there was a large quantity of dirt, dust and grease that needed to be taken care.

Pix 2: Most people overlook the hood area, but autodetailer won't. There was a lot of stubborn grease and grime underneath, and you can see that there was some tough stuff built onto the surface. The left and right hood were rusty too, so extra care needed to be taken care while cleaning it.

Pix 3: Many people don’t detail their engines simply because they don’t understand the process of how to do it, and they're afraid of damaging something. Engine detailing takes a little finesse to do a good job.

Some people like to cover up key compartments like the alternator, the distributor, spark plug, electrical deviced, etc.. but we have never covered anything with no problems but strongly advice, you only do this if you know how to take extra pre-caution. We use little water and water nozzle to control the water flow. Now, start detailing from the perimeter of the engine bay and get rid of any large particles and loose dirt. However, avoid directly hitting any of those key components with direct water pressure.

Pix 4: Meguiar’s Super Degreaser did an impeccable job of removing the caked-on transmission fluid and grease that was found under the hood as well as the other dirt and grime. It did a great job removing the various greases found under the hood, most of which was baked on from the heat of the sun and engine compartment.

Pix 5: Once finished, rinse and dry. We wiped the engine bay dry with a clean cloth to soak up the extra puddle water and lower intake/radiator cover. We were pretty amazed that when we finished, the cloth was nearly as clean :) haha! The whole process took some good effort, but provided a new look.

Pix 6: After we cleaned all the dirt off, it is time to shine it up with Meguiar's Hyper Dressing. You can actually wax the paint if you want to for a 'show car' look.

Now remember, do not underestimate the need to protect your engine after detailing, it is the most expensive part of your car. A 10 year old vehicle doesn’t have to have an engine that looks 10 years old. Once you get the engine clean once, maintaining it with regular wipe-downs is so much easier.

Cheers and see you soon at Raydiance! :)
